Greetings!
Please read on for this week’s news!
Special Guest – CMU Alumna & Attorney Marisa Vinsky
Next Wednesday, February 21 at 3:30 p.m. will be a fantastic opportunity for pre-law students to hear from a CMU graduate who has found a lot of success in the legal world. Marisa Vinsky is going to speak about her experience going from CMU to law school to a successful career in civil rights law and criminal law. Check out her webpage below to learn more about her. All students are welcome to attend the event, which will be held in Anspach Hall (room TBD). Make sure to save the date, and to reach out to me with any questions!
Registration for 2024-2025
Since class registration for next year opens this week, and I have been receiving many questions lately about law classes to register for, I thought I would pass on that information to all of you. Thus, I’ve attached the list of selected law-related classes at CMU I’ve put together to this email. While not all classes on that list are on next year’s schedule, most of them are.
One class that is not on the list but is a fantastic option for pre-law students, especially those of you interested in health care law and/or policy is HSC 571 – Legal Aspects of Health Services. It’s a four-day only class (for 3 credits) taught May 28-31, 2024 and is open to everyone, with no prerequisites. It can be taken in-person or online, so it’s a very flexible option as well. I’ve attached a flyer with additional information and contact info for the instructor. You can reach out to him with any questions.
Public Law Minor
A couple of special considerations for those of you taking (or considering) the Public Law minor. With the success of the minor, we are continuing to expand class options every year. One new option for next year will be an online version of PSC 322, offered in Spring II 2025. It is NOT on the schedule yet, and you won’t be after to register for it until May or so, but I wanted to let you know that it will be there as an option if you can’t take PSC 322 in person next Spring.
Secondly, HSC 571 (described above) will fulfill an elective for the minor, so if you register for that course, just shoot me an email and I will make sure it counts toward the minor for you.
I hope this additional information helps you figure out which law classes to take! If you have any follow-up questions, or would like advice on how to plan out your law classes next year and beyond, please feel free to reach out and/or set up an advising meeting!
Have a great week!
